The Alphabet Begins

After the first focus group in Auckland the alphabet has begun.  Each of the letters of the alphabet are created by different people to represent their experiences of language.  The aim is to create an alphabet from a dyslexic perspective.

The video is one short film made about the experience of walking into a room for people with dyslexia.  The voice is of a dyslexic person telling her story and the images were made with her using photoshop and stop animation to represent her experience.  This film is about representing dyslexic knowledge.

Brief research description

Here's a little more detail about the research.  The info is about the Auckland session but there will be focus groups in Wellington and Christchurch as well, so if you would like more information please contact me.  I am also asking if their are people who would be interested in sharing their experiences of dyslexia with me but would prefer to do so by talking.

Welcome

Hi and welcome to this blog.  I have started this as part of my PhD (social anthropology) research with people with dyslexia to give people a chance to keep involved with the different stages of the research.  So what is the research?...I'm in NZ looking towards working with a group of people to create different representations of their experiences of dyslexia.  I want to understand how people with dyslexia interpret their own experiences and choose to describe their own everyday experiences away from text.  Included on this site is a link to IVONA a text-to-speech programme to help with accessing the text.
